Respect your Elder(berries)

We love trying simple cocktails, which usually means traditional mixes. Jon is a huge whiskey fan and I never get sick of champagne, so when we discovered St-Germain went well with both we had to get some.

St-Germain (if you are unfamiliar with it) is a french liquor flavored with elderberries, made in a process that is as traditional as it gets (learn more here). It is very sweet and is super versatile, so you can easily work it into all of your favorite drinks. Here we made two variations of an Elderfashoned (a different take on one of Jon's favorites the Old Fashoned) one with whiskey the other with gin. Both taste great but a fair warning, if you are not used to sipping on hard alcohol you might want to let you ice melt a little before drinking.

Traditional Elderfashioned: Adapted from St-Germain's Traditional Elderfashioned

3 dashes        Underberg bitters
1                   Orange twist for garnish

Directions: Put all ingredients in a glass, give a stir, add ice, give another stir.

Elderfashioned: Recipe from St-Germain's Elderfashioned

3 oz               New Amsterdam Gin
1/2 oz            St-Germain
3 dashes        Orange bitters
1                   Grapefruit slice for garnish
